With a little bit of preparation, you can truly take the morning off. Here’s how.
Most moms I know do quite a bit of advance work to make sure Mother’s Day goes off without a hitch, including some or all of the following: planning the time of the celebration, grocery shopping, doing a little food prep and, of course, spoiling the other mothers in their lives — their own moms, grandmas and aunts, for example.
No matter how much work you do in advance, do try to let your family pull together a “surprise” brunch for you — that is, after you provide them with the menu below.
The day (or up to two weeks) before, whip up a batch of Decadent Orange Truffles — easy, elegant and great for grown–ups, as they’re flavored with orange liqueur. A substitute dessert for all ages: Fruit Salad Parfaits, which take just 10 minutes to prepare.
Our Blueberry Banana Muffins are almost easier to make than it would be to pick them up at the bakery: Just be sure you have the ingredients stocked and your hubby is all set — with the kids on hand to stir the batter.
Two choices for an egg–based dish he can prepare while the muffins are baking: our Country Breakfast Benedict and our Creamy Asparagus Tart.
And before you get seated, have Dad stir up some Sparkling Pomegranate Tea Punch. Made with either seltzer or Champagne, they’re appropriate for all ages, whether you’re toasting with a sippy cup or a crystal flute.
Here’s to you, Mom!
